A gun-toting man running from police died after he suffered multiple cuts running through a glass door, authorities said this morning.
Officers saw the man firing a gun in the air just before 8:30 p.m. in a vacant lot in the the 6200 block of South Vernon Avenue in the West Woodlawn neighborhood, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office identified him this morning as Jonrynn Avery, 24, of the same block.
As Avery ran from officers into his residence, he crashed through a glass door, suffering multiple lacerations, police said.
He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:09 p.m.
Police were handling the case as a death investigation and not a homicide, according to a police spokesman
Come on? We can give people heart and face transplants but we can't put a few band aids on a guy and stitch him up. Based on the neighborhood I think we can seriously doubt the timeline in this case. He probably went through the glass door at like 5:30pm the cops probably sat around, grabbed a bite, smoked a cig, sprinkled some crack on him, and then called the ambulance at 8:30.
